Music Department

5th grade students may sign up to be in the beginning band class for the 6th grade year. This process will take place in February/March. Students in band will try out several woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments before making a decision. Once a student has their instrument, they will stick with that instrument for their first year. We recommend that band students rent an instrument through Quinlan & Fabish. https://www.qandf.com/

 

Students can expect to learn the fundamentals of playing their instrument and playing in a group. The band has several performance opportunities throughout the year, including a winter and spring concert, Solo & Ensemble contest, and Indiana State School Music Association organizational contest. More opportunities will be available as students continue in band, such as marching band, jazz band, pep band, and other ensembles. The beginning band also typically takes a trip to King's Island in May. Band is a great place to be, and we strive for every student to be successful.

Once orchestra students start their 6th grade year, they will try each string instrument in the orchestra and choose one as their primary instrument.
